You're fighting the good fight here. Considering the smells that start from the bathroom at school and travel down the hall into the teachers' office, I can't believe this practice hasn't been phased out yet. For what it's worth, you'll also find signs encouraging this method in Taiwan, too.
I know Koreans are obsessed with poop, but maybe nobody raised their hands because they were embarrassed to talk about it?
