Clinton to be named "Han Hi-sook"

Why Han Hi-sook?

The surname “Han,” meaning Korea, is derived from the Korean pronunciation of the letter “H” in the name “Hillary.” With the conferment of the surname, Clinton will become the founder of the “Sejong Han” family. Secretary Clinton is the first “Han” from “Sejong-ro” or Sejong Street, the main street in central Seoul where the U.S. Embassy is located.

How stupid.
The name “Hi-sook” is a combination of two separate Chinese characters. “Hi” stands for “Shining,” while “Sook” is for “Clear.” “We believe that these are the attributes that have led to the appointment of Hillary Clinton as the 67th U.S. Secretary of State. Her clear vision and political insight will make important contributions in setting the stage for peace on the Korean Peninsula,” added Suh.

What the hell are these guys talking about? It's just an excuse to give her a Korean name. Nothing more. Stop fluffing.

I'm not surpirsed though. Of course she would get her very own Korean name. I'm just waiting for her to make kimchi in a hanbok in Insadong while eating ddeok bokki with chopsticks, which of course, will be so "spicy".

McCain Camp Calls SNL Palin Skit "Sexist"

Give me a break. SNL is calling it as it is: A pathetic last-ditch effort to shore up support and change the story.

This was funny (and the voice was dead on!):

This was pathetic:

"Well, I think that she looked a bit like her. I think that, of course, the portrait was very dismissive of the substance of Sarah Palin, and so in that sense, they were defining Hillary Clinton as very substantive, and Sarah Palin as totally superficial. I think that continues the line of argument that is disrespectful in the extreme, and yes, I would say, sexist in the sense that just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton does not mean that she lacks substance. She has a lot of substance."

DNC Convention: Hillary Delivers

I have heard the anti-Hillary Dems whining and saying that she was insincere. I have heard the MSM saying that she was not complimenting Obama, but stroking her own ego. And I have heard people claim that is was the best convention speech that we're going to get. They're all wrong. Bottom line is that Hillary delivered and she took a very difficult task and handled it well. It was a brilliant speech and she has done her part.

The focus seems to be on the over-dramatized rift that groups like PUMA have thrust into the spotlight, but what really happened is that Hillary drew a very obvious line in the sand between the Dems and the GOP. I would think that McCain might slow down on the GOP/Hillary ads unless he wants to piss off his already frustrated base.

Good work. I can't wait for Biden and I'm looking forward to the key ring theme that I hope is going to happen tomorrow.

Until then...

McCain, Hillary and AP

According to the AP, tensions between Hillary and Obama supporters are about to "boil over". Of course, if you read the article it doesn't mention any specifics of even the slightest hostility. It simply says the Bill Clinton would rather be discussing the economic legacy of the 90's, rather than what he has been asked to discuss which is security. I understand his frustration, but this does not suggest that there is potential for a huge rift to be exposed. The AP loves McCain and is doing everything they can to tighten the race. That's fine. I have gotten around listening and reading AP garbage by removing their feed from my Yahoo mail account.

The bottom line is that the Media is trying to tarnish the convention with wall-to-wall coverage of Hillary Clinton and her supporters. They are playing up McCain's attempt to attract her supporters and giving him free press access to this issue.

That this ad for example...

"Really...it's okay." Besides the fact that people like this are supporting McCain so Hillary can run 2012, they are probably the worst part of this election. They are blaming Obama for beating her. They are blaming the Media's sexism on Obama. If Obama loses (he won't), I blame them.

You know why? Would any self-respecting Dem AND women vote for this?

But according to McCain, she should have been the running mate.

"Ad's narrator: "She won millions of votes - but isn't on his ticket. Why? For speaking the truth, on his plans...The truth hurt, and Obama didn't like it."

Absurd. The convention is under way. I just watched John Legend sing and now Pelosi is up. Let's go!!!!

McCain pushes Obama/Biden vs. Hillary

The newest McCain ads are quite smart honestly. They have been preparing these for months though. We all knew Hillary wasn't going to be the running mate, so they were just waiting to release the pre-produced ads. The gist is to appeal to more of the bitter Clinton wing by pretending like McCain and the GOP (including FOX) would have selected Clinton. Clinton, once the victim of viscous slander and misogynism, is now the best friend of the GOP. Of course she says differently and praises Biden as the VP choice.

From CNN

"Clinton’s team immediately dubbed the ad misleading. "Hillary Clinton's support of Barack Obama is pretty clear,” said Clinton spokeswoman Kathleen Strand. “She has said repeatedly that Barack Obama and she share a commitment to changing the direction of the country, getting us out of Iraq, and expanding access to health care. John McCain doesn't. It's interesting how those remarks didn't make it into his ad."

Here is his new ad...

Will it work?

Obama Strategy

Everyone has been whining about the tightening numbers and that Obama is not attacking enough and that he is going to lose and that he's like Kerry or Dukakis or whatever else they are whining about. I understand their concerns to a point, but this is getting pathetic. As I have said before, Obama will win and I believe he is doing a good job. The numbers were going to tighten. This is a Red/Blue country. Obama is still leading by 3-7 in the composite. There was no way a black Democrat was going to walk all over the old white POW. It's almost like people are pretending or intentionally ignoring the dynamics of this race. Obama has the right idea here and let me tell you why.

VP Speculation

I called that Obama would make his selection before the Olympics. He didn't and there is a strategy behind it. What has everyone been talking about for the past two weeks? What does CNN, AP and every other blog write about everyday? They speculate who his VP will be. They write about people speculating about who it will be and they speculate about people speculating who will be the VP. This is free and easy coverage. Obama has thrown so many names around as well. He's listed people from Indiana, New Mexico, Connecticut, the military, Arkansas, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kansas and many other states. This inclusion plays well to the voters in those states. It shows that Obama is in-line with their worries and their issues. I don't even want to speculate anymore. I will wait for my international text from the Obama camp and then I will go with it. When the announcement is made, it will be all the news for the week. McCain will try to pull something slimy, but it won't stick. This speculation has served him well.

Attack Strategy

This is the one that has the Kossacks and all the other liberal netizens up in arms. "Why is Obama doing this?!!", "He needs to fire his press team!!", "He's worse than Kerry!!" and my personal favorite, "Obama just lost the election!!!". All bloggers assume their wisdom is the best and therefore feel like they can write posts that seem to be talking AT Obama. I do not do that. I talk to myself. Obama has the right strategy on this and the primary season tells us why. Like all GOP strategies, they chose the short-sighted path and tried to interfer with the Democratic primary so the Dems could kill their chances of unifying before convention. They realeased the all the Wright, Rezco and Ayers stuff hoping that Obama would be so bruised and the Hillary hate would allow for a smooth McCain victory. The Wright stuff hurt, but Obama has now cruised past it. If McCain brings it up again, it will only seem stale and a little desparte. It would not be as effective.

This is what Obama was thinking. Let McCain dish out his first round of garbage (of which possessed no substance), endure it and refute it to around convention time. Obama's theme has been more positive, so his convention needs to reflect that. But after convention, the negative ads will start rolling out and the money is going to pour in. He let McCain go first and now McCain's attacks are getting old and most people think that it is a poor reflection on McCain's character. If Obama had started releasing a lot of McCain=Bush ads now, by October that would be stale and not as effective.

The branding starts now. Obama planted the seed and took the high road first. Sure he might have lost a couple points now, but he's only got one place to go.

Here are his new ads airing this week.

Obama, Bayh and Clinton

Before I get into why Obama might tap Bayh as his running mate, we must remember Hillary Clinton and her wing of the Democratic Party. First of all, I do not think that Obama should allow himself and his supporters to be bullied by people like Geraldine Ferraro into "offering" Hillary the spot. Strategically, Hillary wouldn't add much to the ticket beyond the shallow appearance of unity to appease her embittered supporters. Apparently, there are still some out there who think that Obama should be "gracious" enough to offer her the spot first, so she can decline it. I don't think he should be "gracious" at all. She ran a nasty campaign and surrogates like Geraldine Ferraro made it worse by claiming he was winning because of his race. Right. A black man named Barack Hussein Obama had an advantage. Right.

Still, they are out there. From Politico...

Ferraro, a Clinton supporter who in 1984 became the first woman on a major party presidential ticket, said Obama should be “gracious” enough to offer Clinton the vice presidency, considering how narrow the race was.

Marcia Pappas, who heads the New York state chapter of the National Organization for Women, believes that Clinton supporters “would be outraged to know she was not given that right of first refusal.”

“She is the only woman in history who has ever garnered this much support,” Pappas continued. “She is the only woman in history who was able to raise the kind of money one would need to run a presidential campaign.”

Pamela Sumners, who directs the Missouri chapter of the abortion-rights group NARAL, added that Clinton “is now seen as the reigning dean of the women’s movement. It’s sort of Moses gets all the way to the mountain and doesn’t get to the promised land — and I think there would be people really angry about that.”

So, unless your name is Hillary Clinton, you should not be in consideration.

My question: Hillary Clinton has done some extraordinary things in public office and has shattered many glass ceilings. That's clear. But is it fair that other women (some of which might be in consideration for the VP spot) are forced to break through Hillary's ceiling and reach for their own? Let me rephrase: Why is Hillary the only who can is allowed to break the glass ceiling?

Is Obama leaning towards Clinton?

The Media seems to think that this could perhaps be suggesting that Obama is leaning towards Clinton as his running mate. I would be fine with that as I think that the Media might have burnt any chance Wes Clark had by inaccurately reporting his comments about McCain.

"Barack Obama stoked vice presidential speculation Wednesday with an unannounced stop at the Washington law firm of a search team member and then a flight to New York fundraisers with potential pick Hillary Rodham Clinton and a second vetter. I'm not going to tell you" any details, the smiling likely Democratic nominee told reporters after spending more than two hours inside a downtown Washington office building where attorney Eric Holder, a member of his vice presidential search committee, has offices."
The Media narrative now is that Obama is moving to the center. He is. The Media is, of course, ignoring the fact that every single nominee moves to the center after a very partisan primary. Don't be fooled. Regardless of the truth, in politics perception is everything and oftentimes supercedes the truth. Today Obama voted for immunity for the telecom companies on the wiretapping vote which is under FISA. I am upset that he did this, but he is being caustious so as not to be branded "soft on terrorism". Again, I'm pretty upset with him over this, but it is in no way a deal breaker for me, nor should it be for any Dem. Luckily, Hillary voted against it along with 28 other Senators. This vote will hurt him a little, but he is banking on the fact that the liberal voting bloc will support him way before jumping to McCain. He's probably right, but it's a risk.

If he throws Hillary on the ticket, it will balance it out enough to appease the voters. But more than that, she will keep him on a more liberal track. He might need this while getting settled in the White House.

My question: Is Obama is waiting to reveal his VP choice later in the summer so that he can get a bounce AFTER the GOP and the Media has used up a lot of their ammo? OR is he waiting to see what the ammo is and then pick accordingly?

Donate First!

The RNC has a lot more money to spend than the DNC does. Bush is still raising some big bucks for McCain even though he is in the shadows.

The difference is big:

GOP: $85.1 million
Dems: $47.1 million

That means we have to work extra hard and donate to the DNC and Obama again and again. Remember, McCain is taking public finance, illegally used his general election stash as collatreal for a loan and has the nutty 527's just waiting to 'Swift Boat' Obama. We can do it, but then I see this crap from Hillary.

This is not the time for this plea. This is not the time to help her with her own campaign debt while the DNC is trailing the snakes in overall cash. She should be asking people redesignate their general election donation to Hillary over to Obama.

Look, I understand that she needs some help, but her timing is no good. She needs to be making pleas for her supporters to stop hoping for an Obama loss, a 2012 HRC run and start getting them to unite.

Donate to Barack Obama.

Red to Purple, Purple to Blue

The DNC has been trying to successfully implement their 50 State Strategy for years now. They tried in 2004 and quickly realized that Kerry only appealed to solid, life-long Dems. The only inroads he made with fence voters did not go beyond that anti-Bush vote. That loss made most Dem insiders believe that this strategy would not work and that elections are won in the few big swing states (OH, FL, PA, and MO). The hope of changing the map was scrapped as Hillary became the big front-runner who was sure to carry OH and maybe even FL. With that, senior Dems and the media anointed HRC as the one who can take back the White House in the more conventional way.

Enter Barack Obama. After his 2004 DNC Convention Speech, people have been drawn to Obama. People liked him a lot and had high hopes for him, but he did not have the backing of the establishment Dems. Hillary had already claimed that territory and had her speech writers working on her convention speech. Obama did not gain momentum for a long time. He battled criticism from every possible angle up until Iowa. It was in Iowa that the people decided to let themselves be inspired enough to pull that lever (or caucus I should say) for the young Illinois senator. As the primaries continued, Obama proved himself to have the following, the support and the momentum to break free from the conventional style of winning a primary. By focusing on how the delegate system worked rather than writing off the Red states and battling in Clinton strongholds, he expanded his map. He brought in otherwise Democratic write-off's which in turn gave him the nomination. By doing this, he earned a solid Red state backing and has turned some Red states to Purple states. Had Clinton won, she would be fighting the conventional fight of holding Blue and fighting for only OH and FL. The Dems have seen this fail too many times.

Howard Dean, Obama and a handful of other Dems know that the strategy to capture the White House by only winning key states does not benefit the Dem party. Sure Hillary might have won, but Obama and Dean want to make the Dem party what it used to be, a big tent. And to pitch that tent, you can not focus on some states and ignore others. You can not focus on a select few voting blocs and leave the others for the GOP. You have pitch that tent with a wide coalition of voters who all share a common thread.

Obama has made people realize that a thread even exists and once it is sewn and the big tent is pitched, the GOP will only be able to view the party from the outside.

Clinton Can Unify

The focus is now all on Obama. Can he win? Who will he pick for his running mate? Will he be able to unify the party? All of these questions are valid and all of them can be answered, as one Kos writer suggests, with one simple strategy: Hillary needs to attack John McCain and she needs to do it hard and often.

She needs to rail into him just she would have if she was the nominee. She needs to hit him on the economy, on national security, on equal rights, on equal pay, on Webb's GI Bill, on every Democratic bill that comes to the Senate floor between now and the end of June. This will serve the Dem party in two ways. Kos claims that this is a solid strategy because McCain will fire back at her and then her supporters will rally behind Obama. That's totally true, but there are a lot of angered Clintonista's out there who might be thinking that voting McCain for be a good way to regain some face after that upset. If she sticks it to McCain on every issue that he is weak on (and the list is long), then her base will realize how bad a McCain presidency would be for the country. This would also calm down the BS sympathy that the GOP is throwing at HRC in an lame attampt to woo some Dems to the dark side.

In closing: Clinton attacks McCain. McCain attacks Clinton. Clintonista's rediscover their political compass. Democrats unite.

It's not the only way, but it's a kick ass way and one that I would love to see.

Veeps

Now that Obama has clinched the nomination and Hillary will suspend her candidacy on Friday, Obama has assembled his team to begin the VP search.

I have my ideas as to who he will pick, but the most important thing is how he deals with Hillary and her 18 million supporters. He needs to ask her and he needs to do it sincerely, publicly and very carefully. He needs to somehow appease a lot of these voters. Before BO reached the number, I had been on countless pro-Hillary blogs and read hundreds of pissed Hillary supporters who had stated that they would not vote for Obama no matter what. They felt cheated. They felt like something was stolen from them. And most of all, they felt like they are victims of another stolen election. Democrats have been the victims too many times and they tend to take their ball and go home when this happens. We can't allow this to happen again. We will not carry any purple states if they choose to stay home. We have to engage these people. On that note, I have seen a lot of changes in opinion since Obama won. Not drastic changes, but people seem to be realizing what would happen if McCain coasted in because they were angry that their team lost and stayed home. The Dems need to focus on this change of heart and need to appease its base. Giving Hillary the VP slot would turn some of those angered voters out, but would that be enough? No.

I used to think that she had to be on there, but she is much more useful in the Senate. As we know, the VP slot needs to balance the ticket. They need to have some experience that the Pres might not cover so well. Hillary does not have that solid experience which Obama lacks. They both are naive when it comes to foreign policy. They both have the same policies and a similar career path. They will not offer a balanced ticket. Hillary offers one thing and that is the possibility that she can help carry certain states (mostly OH and PA). That was why Edwards was called on in 2004. He was supposed to help carry some southern states. Of course, he didn't deliver any states and essentially made the ticket one-sided. Hillary would not be a balance either.

There are a lot of names that people are throwing around, but all of them are attempts at Electorate map changes, not balances. The map is important, but these map changers or solidifiers are never a solid bet.

What Obama needs is to take McCain's only strong point away from him. He needs to get somebody who not only is a foreign policy buff, but some who can trump McCain's years of "experience". That person is Wes Clark.

Clark would be the biggest slap in the face to McCain and would make McCain change his platform. McCain could not use the experience line anymore. Using Iraq would be a pitfall and that would leave him with nothing to discuss. He could offer nothing.

Clark would not only counter McCain and actually outweigh him, but he would also be an excellent guide and leader. He can logically look at what is going on and with years and years of military knowledge, navigate the country through the countless missteps that the GOP has made. He is untouchable by the GOP as well. They can not discount the years he has on McCain and they can not brand him as unpatriotic which seems to be the only attack they have on Dems.

Clark's military experience is huge, but there is another reason why he would be excellent. He is a huge Clinton backer. He loves the Clinton's and they love him. He could help heal the wounds that the Dem's need to close. I saw Clark speak in 2004 and this guy connects with the people. He stood in front of a group of white Democratic working-class Tennesseans wearing a UT orange sweatshirt and made these people go wild with his down-to-earth personality. He connected and he did it with intelligence and confidence.

The Dems need a win. He is the balance. He needs to be the Veep.

The Top is Key!

The ever-changing metric that HRC has been using is finally coming to a close as they foolishly fought over four delegates in Michigan and left Florida alone. That being said, I think that the Democratic party is slowly blowing its only chance in November. They have taken perhaps the easiest chance of winning the White House back in recent history and made it absurdly close.

In retrospect, it's quite simple to see where they have gone wrong. Punishing FL and MI by giving each delegate half a vote is out of the 1787 playbook that counted slaves as 3/5 of a person. Secondly and I am guilty as well, but counting Hillary out of the race as early as they(we) did sent an awful message to the Clinton wing of the party. The Dem party again strayed from its moral working class roots and started dancing with the elites that took over the party in the 1960s.

There is one option: Unity ticket. Hillary has to be on that ticket and if the Dems want a sure win then...(deep breath)...Hillary must be at the top.

I know it's awful to hear and it hurts me to say it because I know Obama would be the better President, Hillary's supporters will not vote for Obama on the top. They will stay home and hope for McCain to win, so HRC can run in 2012. They will sabotage Obama.

This could not be worse for the world. Yet again, we will show everybody just how short our memory is and what really is important to us.

Indy 550

Yet another "Chess equals Checkers" comparison for the current HRC campaign. Obviously, this commentor at Kos was a little more creative than I was.

"Today at the Indianapolis 500 Danica Patrick, IndyCar's premiere Female Driver, insisted that she would keep driving around the track affectionately known as the Brickyard even if she lost today's race.

"You can't win it unless you are in it," she said. When questioned on what was the point of driving around a track after you've lost the race Danica responded, "Well, see the race isn't over until all the cars cross the track at 550 miles." Then she insisted that the Indianapolis 500 was actually the Indy 550 according to crew chief, Terry McAuliffe's own map of the racetrack.

"You know a lot of people want me to get out of the race," Danica Patrick said, "I can't really figure it out. I don't know why...In 1995 Jacques Villeneuve didn't win until the last lap of the race and in 1974 Swede Savage died before he could finish the race. So I couldn't answer -- Couldn't tell you why people want me to get out."

Danica Patrick refused to answer speculation that she would be joining Team Alegre - MYDD Racing next year."

It's when we read these excellent and hilarious comparisons that we realize just how silly her position has become.

Hillary's Dean Scream

I love to be proven wrong and yet again the media has illustrated that they have no journalistic integrity or loyalty to the word "objective" or "investigative". They have turned Hillary's poorly formulated historic reference into Howard Dean's Scream and John Kerry's "I voted against it before I voted for it". This will be the end of her campaign.

Why? Why will this obviously benign political gaffe turn into the end of her campaign? One word: Perception. Selling anything, whether it's a product, idea or position, the focus is not on the product, but how the product should be thought of or perceived. We have seen this for decades and we are certainly seeing it as they frame St. John McCain as an ethical "straight-talker".

This is the kind of moment that the corporate media has been waiting for in order to bury either hers or Obama’s campaign. And they now have something that will be the "defining moment" of the final phase for the campaign. Oh sure, she has been built up time and time again (New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania and whatever else I forgot), only to be gleefully torn apart as she faltered (or was even perceived to falter) by people like Chris Matthews and his talking meatstick counterparts.

It doesn’t matter if this was more callous, more calculating or more thoughtless than anything else that she or her surrogates may have said or hinted over the course of the campaign.

It doesn’t matter that Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with cancer this week, or that the comment was about RFK, JFK or MLK.

It doesn’t matter if she was truly trying to invoke history and picked a very poor example.

It doesn’t matter if she admitted that she was very tired and that it was an incredibly stupid or insensitive thing to say.

It doesn’t matter, at this point, if her supporters will be alienated by what she said - especially since most of those supporters have already voted and/or donated to her campaign.

What matters, sadly but true, is that she has now been officially declared "done" with the one moment that can be played over and over and over and over.

And over.

Obama will not focus on her. McCain will not focus on her. And the media will not focus on her. And yes, Obama has started to focus on McCain at her expense, just as the media has started to focus on the fact that she can’t win enough delegates to get the nomination. The difference now is that they don’t have to focus on her anymore and no one will think twice about it.

Right, wrong or other - this is what will ultimately end her campaign - whether it be a slow, painful end that will never really result in her conceding to Obama or an announcement over the next few days due to internal pressure. She is very resilient and has come back from what may be worse gaffes, worse positions or worse actions by her or her husband or her top aides.

But that is because she was also given the leeway and was allowed to continue for the benefit of her campaign, to the benefit of the media narrative (so they have something to talk amongst themselves about) and to the campaign of the Republicans who have a 20 year dossier on her.

There is no longer a need for her campaign in this narrative. She is no longer viewed as a serious and credible candidate at this point in the primary process by those who kept her candidacy alive and pumped up for the past few weeks.

She can realize this and bow out with whatever dignity she has left, or she can continue on and become a caricature of the serious candidate and groundbreaking campaign she set out to run.

No one knows that the media is going to pick up on and run with, but Hillary just found out and you can't run from a "Dean Scream".

Swinging

This is the kind of Obama I want to see. Let's face it, all sorts of negative things have come out about Obama. He's a pol and that is what happens. However, if he deals with things like this, then I don't see any reason to worry.

Question: Will Obama's new found balls continue to grow?

Image of the Week

First of all, I did not edit any of these images myself. I got them from Presumptuous Insect who posted them under their Kos diary. I saw them and simply could not resist.

Over the last few days, we have seen Hillary claim many new things that we did not know about her. Mt favorite part is how her supporters are acting like this is how she has always been. Right!

We heard her hunting story with her grandfather...

And her little, "I felt the Holy Spirit in me" on several occasions line.

Maybe we can get her on the televangelist cycle...

All in all, we can at least rest knowing that we will all be safe...

Seriously though, what will be next? The biggest issue is that TH has been so short-sighted in this election. She won't win this and she is making Obama look like damaged goods. Obama needs act like he has won and start focusing on McCain. It will work.

Question: What will Hillary's next line be?

1) "What would have happened if the dad in Hoosiers didn't say, 'Get outa my face!'"

2) "When I was a girl, my grandfather used to take me to Puerto Rico and say, 'Hill, one day they too will be a state.' I have always fought for you and continue to fight for you!"

3) "Together we can win Kentucky and together we can lower Kentucky's rate of adult tooth loss! I have long questioned the tooth-rating metric and will fight to make it based on race, not by state!"

4) "Together we can win North Carolina and... wait. North Carolina is not big enough to matter. Only the states that I won which have primaries count!

5) "I called Sen. Barack Obama today and congratulated him on his nomination and fully throw my support behind him!"

"Mountain out of a Molehill"

That was the quote from PA governor and Clinton supporter Ed Rendell.

This poorly made and lame attempt at taking advantage of Obama's gaffe is just another phase in the 'make Obama unelectable' campaign. However, I think that Obama made a great statement and should have stuck by it. Who cares if Clinton (who will not be the nominee) takes advantage of it. People have made up there mind. They know he is not "out of touch" and the people also know that Clinton is pandering more than she ever has.

New lows everyday.

Question: According to Hillary, what does Obama hate more?

1) Freedom

2) Grandmothers

3) Special Olympics

4) Children's laughter
